SCHENEVUS – A. Irene Conley,93, died Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Lexington Country Place in Lexington, Kentucky, after several recent illnesses.
She was born in Port Crane, N.Y., September 24, 1923, the youngest daughter of Raymond and Henrrietta (Hoeppner) Kinney. She grew up in Port Crane and graduated from Binghamton North High School in 1942. She attended Buffalo State College for two years before transferring to Cornell University in Ithaca, NY where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics in 1946. She later completed post-graduate courses in Special Education at Syracuse University.
After graduating from Cornell, she moved to Schenevus, NY where she taught Home Economics at A.S. Draper Central School for several years before she married Paul Beecher Conley on June 25, 1949. They were married for nearly 57 years and lived on their farm on South Hill, Schenevus where they raised their family. After 65 years on the farm, Irene and son, Gavin, moved to Beavercreek, Ohio, in 2014 to live with her son, Lansen and his wife Pamela, and, finally, in 2016 to Lexington, Kentucky, near her daughter, Paula.
During her years in Schenevus, Irene was a 4-H leader of two clubs for the Otsego County Extension Service over twenty years and was a tutor in the Oneonta Public School System until retirement. After
retirement, Irene was an elected Assessor for the Town of Maryland for two terms.
Irene's greatest achievement was raising her family of seven children. She enjoyed her children tremendously and made many sacrifices to provide them with good educations and enriching
opportunities. She also enjoyed reading, history, current events, conversation and traveling. When she was young, Irene traveled by bike and train to many regions in the Northeast and later would travel throughout the U.S. and overseas to visit her children.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Beecher Conley, Schenevus, NY and is survived by her seven children and their families: daughter, Charlene (Steven) Perron of Kentwood, Mich., and their five children: Mark (Suzanne) Perron and children Emily and Eliana; Laura (Todd) Weaver and children Noah, Olivia, Evelyn; Lansen (Andrea) Perron and children Selah, Eliza, Audrey, Annika; Scott (Alissa) Perron and their children Caleb, Lincoln, Hudson, Everett, Kate; Ted (Amber) Perron and their children Seth, Nolan, Landon, Carter, Haven; son Davis (Christine) Conley, of Monroe, North Carolina and their daughter, Jennifer Linhard and children: Brandon, Kylie, and Chloe; son Gavin Conley of Richmond, Kentucky; son Blair (Margaret) Conley, of Fort Dodge, Iowa and their three children: Andrea, Anita, Brian (Emily) Conley and son Edison Paul; son Todd (Debbie) Conley, of Oxford, North Carolina; son, Retired Air Force Colonel Lansen (Pamela) Conley, of Beavercreek, Ohio and children: Lansen Grant, Kelly, Eric; daughter, Paula May of Richmond, Kentucky and children: Allison, Julia and Brenden. She is also survived by sister-in- law, Edna Conley, several nephews, nieces and cousins, and longtime friends Minnie Beams and Carol Richards.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Carlton Kinney, her sisters, Eleanor Crouch and Phyllis Kinney and brothers-in- law, Meredith, Philip and Allison Conley.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 28 at the Schenevus United Methodist Church, 66 Main Street, Schenevus, NY. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 29 at the
Schenevus United Methodist Church with a graveside service immediately after in the Schenevus Cemetery.
