Schenevus – Albert (Al) G. Rostohar, 79, of Schenevus passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2008, at the Otsego Manor.
Albert was born February, 22, 1929 in Hoboken, New Jersey, the son of Joseph and Helen (Malaker) Rostohar.
He was combat veteran serving in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952.
He married Eleanor Herzog on July 31, 1954, at the East Worcester Methodist Church.
Al worked for General Electric Corporation in Schenectady for seven years as a tinsmith, welder and shop steward. In 1959 he established his own plumbing and heating business that served a three county area.
He was a 48 year member of the Schenevus-Maryland Fire Department and a 48 year member of Schenevus Valley Masonic Lodge 592. He was also a 43 year member of American Legion Post 1584 in Worcester. Al was also a founding member and past Commander of VFW Post 2752 in Schenevus and a past Cub Master of Cub Scout Pack 18 in Schenevus.
He was an active member of the Crumhorn Rod and Gun Club in Maryland and a long time member of the National Rife Association. Al was an avid hunter, and trap shooter. He also enjoyed reading and reloading shotgun shells.
Al is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eleanor Rostohar of Schenevus; his children and their spouses, James and Carol Rostohar of Houston, Texas and Judy and Thomas Colone of Baldwinsville, New York. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Al was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph Rostohar of Boston, Mass., Edward Rostohar of Camarillo, California, Felix Rostohar of Fort Worth, Texas and Victor Rostohar of Mohawk, New York.
A Masonic service will start at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008, at the Schenevus United Methodist Church, 66 Main Street in Schenevus, followed by the memorial service, with the Rev. Lawrence Russell, pastor and the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow at the Schenevus Cemetery.
