ONEONTA – Alberta M. Devenpeck, RN, died on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Fox Nursing Home. She had resided in Oneonta for many years.
She was born in Seward, NY on August 27, 1919, the daughter of Claude and Margaret (Hardy) Devenpeck. The family resided in Dorloo, where she was raised.
Alberta graduated from Cobleskill High School in 1937, where she earned the first Golden Ring Biology Prize, an award for History Study, and lettered in Field Hockey and Basketball.
In 1946 she graduated from the Bethesda School of Nursing in Cincinnati, Ohio and was a member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps.
She was a Registered Nurse in the states of New York, Ohio and Washington, working at Memorial Hospital in Albany, NY, Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, Seward Alaska TB Hospital, A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, and Otsego Manor Nursing Home in Cooperstown.
Alberta was a member of the Oneonta Southside Wesleyan Church. She did missionary work in Alaska. Alberta had a love for God and church, and all God's creatures. After that she loved tennis, skiing and bowling. She had a special attachment to her animals.
She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, C. Milton Devenpeck and Amos Devenpeck and a nephew, Ted Devenpeck.
She is survived by nephews, Edgar Devenpeck of N. Fort Myers, FL, Robert Devenpeck of Albany and Marshall Devenpeck of Lower Burrell, PA; and many great nieces and great nephews.
Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to Noon with the funeral service at Noon, Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta. Burial will follow at the Seward Valley Cemetery in Dorloo.
