Obituary

Alexander "Lou" Mustico, 94, of Worcester, NY passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on February 26, 1930 in Elmira, NY, the seventh child of Joseph and Rose (Lamentia) Mustico. He was a first generation American and extremely proud of his Italian heritage.

He attended high school at Elmira Free Academy and after graduating in 1947, he went into the United States Air Force in 1949, where he served for three years. He attended college on the GI Bill at SUNY Cortland, graduating with a degree in teaching in 1956.

In 1959, he married Diane Halleck. He got a teaching job in Waverly, NY, but shortly after, he was offered a job with the Department of Defense Dependent Schools, as a mathematics teacher at Munich American High School. He and Diane raised their family in Munich and lived there for 32 years. Lou was an integral member of the community, touching the lives of students both as a teacher and as a soccer coach, leading several championship teams.

He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and encouraged them to always seize new opportunities, as you never know where something may take you. He always emphasized the importance of family and hard work. He enjoyed cooking and was famous for his homemade Italian sausage and pizzelles. He could always be counted on for a good breakfast and a good joke.

He is survived by: his children Karen (David) Miller of Worcester, NY, Michele (Brian) Murphy of Aurora, NY, Katherine (Andy) Phelan of Schoharie, NY, and Alexander (Michelle) Mustico of Eldersburg, MD; grandchildren Sarah, Andrew, and Erik Miller, Molly, Conrad, Ronan, and Quinn Murphy, McKenzie, Caleb, Madeline, and Morgan Phelan, and Amelia and Audrey Mustico. He is also survived by his sister Mary Mustico, and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by Diane Mustico, his loving wife of 62 years, and his siblings Carmen (Lucy), Orlando (Mary), Renaldo (Joan), Carl (Arlene "Buzzy"), Theresa, Josephine, and Joseph (Elizabeth) Mustico.
