Obituary

LAURENS – Alfred F. Lapp of Laurens died peacefully on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the age of 86.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Beverly Lapp (nee Bowmaker) and his three children, Judith Gregory of Coram, Charles Lapp of West Laurens and Alan Lapp of Merrick; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; his sister, Marion Small of New Port Richey, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

Alfred was predeceased by his first wife of 49 years, Gloria.

Alfred was a United Stated Army veteran, serving in World War II. He was wounded in action and is a recipient of the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman Badge.

He was a life member and Ex-Captain of Empire Hose Co. #3 of the Merrick Fire Department, past member of the Laurens Fire Department and of the East Rockaway Fire Department. He was a member of the Fireman's Association of the State of New York and former Secretary of the South Shore Volunteer Fireman's Association.

Alfred was member of St. Mathew Lutheran Church in Laurens, Laurens Masonic Lodge No. 548, a Board Member and past President/Secretary of Otsego County Council of Senior Citizens, and an active member of the Republican Committee of Otsego County. He was also the Town of Laurens Tax Assessor and Town Board/Council member, the crossing guard for Laurens Central School and an Honoree from Otsego County for Volunteers "Make It Happen" award from New York State Office of the Aging.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m.

A funeral service with Holy Communion will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 10 a.m. at St. Mathew Lutheran Church, 125 Main Street, Laurens, with the Pastor Paul Messner, officiating.

Interment with military honors will be at the Elm Row Laurens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mathew Lutheran Church, PO Box 217, Laurens, NY 13796 or to the Hampshire House Adult Home, Sunshine Fund, 1846 County Highway 48, Oneonta, NY 13820.
