ONEONTA - Alma Crosby 91, of Oneonta, and recently The Otsego Manor, passed away unexpectedly on July 25, 2011.
Alma, born January 19, 1920, was the elder daughter of Jessie and Clyde Conrow. She was a graduate of Oneonta High School, worked in retail for many years and at Wilber National Bank until retirement.
Alma was married on March 7, 1941 to Melvin R. Crosby who predeceased her in 2006.
She was a dedicated caregiver for her sister, Norma Galvin and mother, Jessie until the time of their deaths. Alma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oneonta where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. Among her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren and beloved niece, Judi Ancewicz. She was proud of their families and accomplishments. Alma also cherished her many friends – whose visitations and companionships brightened her days during recent years. She also cherished the many friendships, staff and residents, acquired at The Otsego Manor. She raved about the care and treatment received from the professional staff at the Manor.
Alma's love of music was nurtured early in life by her mother and father and their orchestra, and was carried on by her son, Jerry Jeff Walker, "Mr. Bojangles." Also, sharing the love of music are her niece, Judi Ancewicz who sings in a quartet, "Close Enough", her grandson, Django Walker, and her late sister, Norma Galvin who was a jazz singer and pianist performing in a group known as "The Ascots".
Alma is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Harder and husband, Bob; son, Jerry Jeff Walker and wife, Susan; niece, Judi Ancewicz and husband, Larry and their children; grandchildren, Lauren Harder, Brian Harder, Django Walker, Jessie Jane Walker McLarty; one great grandchild, Allie Jane McLarty born January 3, 2011, and one nephew, Tim Conklin.
A graveside ceremony celebrating the life of Alma will be led by Reverend Mark Montfort on Saturday, 3:00 P.M., July 30, 2011 at the Plains Cemetery.
