Ann Marie
Briguglio
March 14, 1926 – May 22, 2022
Oneonta, NY – Ann Marie Briguglio, 96, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2022 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.
Ann was born March 14, 1926 in Oneonta, the daughter of Julius and Mary (Molinari) Speranzi. She attended St. Mary's School in Oneonta and graduated from Oneonta High School, class of 1944.
On February 13th, 1949, Ann married James Briguglio on at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oneonta.
Before having children, Ann worked in the payroll department at the Oneonta Dress Factory and the Credit Bureau. After raising her children, she, and her husband Jim, owned and ran the Tri-County Glass business. When they sold the business, she had a part time position in the college bookstore at Hartwick College in 1980 retiring in 1993.
Ann was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, and the Ladies of Elks. Ann enjoyed volunteering at A.O. Fox Hospital and St. Mary's School and Church. One of her last volunteer jobs was at the Oneonta (Otsego) Christian School where she read to young children who gave her the name "Grandma Annie." She loved being around children and it was obvious they loved her as well.
Ann and Jim loved to dance together at the Elks Club, at home, and anywhere else that they could.
She also loved telling jokes to anyone who would listen. She had a way of telling jokes that made them even funnier, and wow, could she remember punch lines along with the perfect timing that really grabbed you and made you laugh along with her.
Ann loved sewing fabric panels for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She would do her crafty panels while watching TV, and her family members and friends were the lucky recipients of her lovely handiwork. Another hobby of hers was baking and cooking and sharing her food with others especially around Christmas time. She would even share her sauce recipe with her children's neighbors when she visited Colorado! An avid reader and crossword puzzle solver, she enjoyed playing scrabble too. Ann introduced her children to the pleasures of "old" movies and many of the movie stars of her era. As a result, her children grew to enjoy such movies and stars as well.
Aside from these interests, Ann enjoyed her monthly lunches with classmates who lived in the area. In fact, she took on the task of calling each classmate to remind them of the date and time of their monthly lunches – something she loved to do!
She survived the Great Depression, World War II, and raising four kids. While her kids were in school, she was active in their school activities and in many activities sponsored by St. Mary's Church. When her children were young, Ann and her sister-in-law Grace Speranzi would pile all their seven children in the car and take them to Gilbert Lake almost every day in the summer. Ann and Grace would make peanut butter sandwiches and a giant container of Kool-Aid and off they would go.
Ann is survived by her children, James (Christy) Briguglio of Charleston, SC, Rev. Julianne (Don) Legg of Windsor, CO, Mary-Jo Briguglio (Vince Fayad) of Georgetown, KY, and Joseph (Robin) Briguglio of Otego, NY; 4 grandchildren, Kristen (Briguglio) and Christopher Walters, Jaime (Briguglio) and Thomas Caruso, Jaclyn (Briguglio) and David Sander and Joseph and Nicole Briguglio. Ann was the lucky great grandmother (known as Gigi) to Sage, Lyla and Evan Walters, Leo Caruso, Nora, Evelyn, Phoebe, and Jack Sander, Joseph and Lily Briguglio. She is also survived by her brother, Tom (Grace) Speranzi and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ann was predeceased by her husband, James Briguglio August 3, 1995; a grandson, Kristopher Mansfield September 6, 2004, her sister Caroline (Speranzi) Mauel, her brothers Anthony, Joseph, and Andrew, and her dear cousin, Veronica (Ronnie) Mannona.
A special "thank you" to all the staff at A.O. Fox Nursing Home. As Ann would say, "I love you, a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck, a hug around the neck and a barrel and a heap, a barrel and a heap and I'm talking in my sleep about you, about you." And we'll be talking about you Ann for many years!
