Obituary

ONEONTA - April P. Farmer, 54, of Oneonta passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 7, 2013, after a courageous battle with a long illness.

She was born on April 10, 1959, in Spotsylvania, Virginia to Randolph and Betha (Glenn) Proffitt.

On March 17, 1979 she married Donald Farmer, the father of her only daughter. Despite their divorce she valued their friendship until the end. Later she met the love of her life William Hall. They spent 17 wonderful years together. She considered herself very lucky to ever experience a love like theirs.

April worked 20+ years in the food service industry. She worked as a waitress, a bartender, and as a food and beverage manager and she touched people's lives where ever she went. April had a love of owls that was evident in her extensive collection. She was especially proud of her numerous tattoos of owls and of her loved ones. She also provided a loving home to many cats needing rescuing throughout the years.

April was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. In turn her grandchildren loved their "Woo-woo" and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her life partner William Hall; her daughter Olivia (Gary) Burlew; three grandsons Mason, Gavin, and Aiden; her mother Betha; her sisters Darlene (Timothy) Lloyd and Dorothy "Brutie" Proffitt; a niece Bonnie; a nephew Joseph; and several aunts and uncles.

She was predeceased by her father Randolph Proffitt and her sister Bonnie Shaffer.

Per her request there will be no funeral services. A private memorial service will be held for immediate family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in her name please be made to either The Ronald McDonald House Charities or to your local ASPCA.
