Obituary

ONEONTA – Barbara C. Dailey, 86, passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Otsego Manor in Cooperstown.

She was born August 1, 1925 in Poughkeepsie, the daughter of Theron and Dorothy (Popp) Cummings.

Barbara graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1943. She received a Bachelors degree in Economics from Allegheny College and received a degree of Master of Science in Retailing from New York University, graduating 2nd in her class, June 1948.

After college, she moved to Oneonta to help her father Theron manage Roslyn Shops, two women's clothing shops in Sidney and Oneonta. She met Willis Dailey Jr. and they were married on July 24, 1949 at the First United Methodist Church in Oneonta. She then joined her husband, working in the Dailey family business, the Oneonta Family Cleaners, where she ran the front office. She and Willis continued to own the business and built U-Totem, one of the first laundromats in Oneonta.

While raising her children she was very active with work and community, and always had a hot meal on the table by 6 p.m. She served as an officer and was a life member of several organizations, including, the American Association of University Women, Oneonta Business Women, Oneonta Garden Club, Friends of Huntington Library, Oneonta Historical Society, Hartwick College Citizens Board, the DAR in Poughkeepsie, Sidney and Oneonta and she was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Her biggest joys included spending time with her children and grandchildren during camping trips to Indian Lake in the summer, and vacationing in Cape Cod and Sugarbush with the whole family. She also took great pleasure traveling with her husband to Alaska, Hawaii, throughout the lower 48, Europe and Central America. In her retirement, she enjoyed being part of the book club that was part of AAUW, puttering in her garden and spending time with the grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Willis Calvin Dailey, Jr.; a brother, William Cummings and wife, Elaine Cummings of Sydney, Ohio; son, Bruce Gordon Dailey and fiancée, Valerie Kriney, of Wyckoff, NJ, and grandson, Andrew Michaels Dailey; son, Douglas Allen Dailey and wife, Karen Roesch Dailey, of Burlington VT, and grandchildren, Sean Roesch Dailey and wife, Michele Gutsick Dailey, James William Dailey, Daniel Cooper Dailey, Jacob Joseph Roesch and wife, Diana Marinovic, Benjamin Baldwin Roesch and wife, Shannon Delahanty Roesch, and great-grandchildren, Felix Delahanty Roesch and Leo West Roesch; daughter, Kathryn Jean Dailey Sason and husband, Raphael Rousseau Sason, of Oneonta, NY and grandchildren, Sara Catlin Sason, Rachel Danielle Sason and partner, Wayne Goulet, Michelle Clara Sason; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Goodwin.

A memorial service for both Willis "Bill" and Barbara Dailey will be held 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Lewis, Hurley, Pietrobono Funeral Home, with the Rev. Teressa Sivers, pastor at the First United Methodist Church, officiating; followed by internment with Military Honors at the Glenwood Cemetery in Oneonta.
