Oneonta – Barbara Delaney, 72, passed away November 27, 2024 at A.O. Fox Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born September 12, 1952 in Oneonta, the daughter of Bernie and Louise (Gemmel) Sitts.

Barbara was the Laurens Town Clerk for many years, she also worked at the Soccer Hall of Fame and DSB Insurance Company.   She was a member of the Oneonta American Legion Auxiliary.

Barbara was a very caring person.  She was a mother to many children and eventually became known as Grandma Cheese.  She enjoyed shopping, going to lawn sales every weekend, and playing cards with her good friends and family.

She is survived by her sons, James (Kelly) Brooks and William Brooks (Charon Teeter); grandchildren, James, Harley, Hannah, Halona, Ashlie, Nicholas, and Annika; her siblings, Mae Vanalstyne, Becky Welsh, Rita Knapp, Zelda Smith, Sharon Clapper and Willard Clapper; sister-in-law, Letha Post; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Patrick Delaney and brother, Bernie Sitts.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2025 at Oneonta Plains Cemetery, with Rev. Casey Bradley officiating.  Following the service there will be a celebration of life reception from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oneonta American Legion, 279 Chestnut St., Oneonta.
