WORCESTER – Barbara "Gram" McCabe, 86, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010 in Stamford after a brief illness.
She was born January 6, 1923 in Worcester, the daughter of Fenton and Bessie (Hughes) Gallup.
Barbara married William McCabe on April 28, 1945 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oneonta. He predeceased her on November 18, 2006.
Barbara was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Worcester, the Worcester Historical Society, the Wieting Memorial Association and the Iroquois Chapter of the DAR.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing and being with her family and friends.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Marlene and husband, Doug Sluiter of Andes and Mary and husband, Jeffrey Teller of Worcester; a grandson, Matt and wife, Dana Sluiter of Bovina; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Sara Sluiter; two sisters-in-law, Josie Gallup of Daytona Beach, FL and Betty Smith of The Villages, FL and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Beverly Gallup in 1976 and Robert Gallup in 1997
Calling hours will be held at the E.J. Skinner funeral Chapel, Worcester, on Saturday, January 9, 2010 from 10:30 to the Mass of Christian Burial at Noon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Worcester, with the Rev. Ronald Green, MM as celebrant.
Interment at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, will take place at a later date.
