Mr. Basil "Bud" Waltrip, 88, of Matthews, NC, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020.

Bud was born on September 12, 1932 in Louisville, Kentucky, son to the late Basil Edgar Waltrip and Dorothy Emma Waltrip. He graduated from Louisville Male High School and had a long career in sales and hauling before retirement. Bud and his beloved wife of 60 years Ellen Claire Waltrip previously lived in Plantation, Florida and Pisgah Forest , NC before making Matthews, NC their final home. He loved the Miami Dolphins and spending time with family and friends. Bud was a very kind and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply miss by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife and best friend Ellen Waltrip; children and their spouses, Rick and Laura Waltrip, Belinda and Terry Pietrobono, Pamela and Alberto Sorzano, Dana Waltrip, Mark Waltrip, Glenn Waltrip, Colleen and Bruce Goldstein; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 12:30 PM at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28277. Burial will be private. Please follow social distancing guidelines and wear a mask or face covering at the Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association.
