OTEGO – Beatrice Elizabeth Sabedra went to be with our Lord at the age of 95. She died March 26, 2008 surrounded by her loving family at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta. She had been in the loving care of Hospice and the Fox Nursing Home.
She was born December 26, 1912 in Oneonta, the daughter of Fred and Lena (Fullington) Crandall. Her father lived to be 94.
Beatrice married Andrew Francis Sabedra on May 29, 1931. He passed away April 8, 1970. They were married 49 years. They were of the Catholic faith and were very active in the Grange, achieving the highest degree. Family, home and gardening were of the utmost importance to them.
After the death of her middle son, she went to work at Astrocom Electronics, where she worked until her retirement. She was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Beatrice is survived by five daughters, Ann and Leonard Cairns of Bovina Center, Shirley Parsons of Bend, Oregon, Sandra and Charles Markel of Cooperstown, Patricia and Kenneth Hughes of Milford, and Andrea and Robert Strom of Otego; one son, Andrew Francis Sabedra and his companion Sue Sutherland of Oneonta. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, two sons, Robert and Francis (Peter) Sabedra; one great-grandson, Alexander Randall Porteus; her parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Andrew Pewther of Massachusetts; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Guy and Gladys Crandall of Goshen, Walter and Rita Crandall of Oneonta and George Crandall, who died in early childhood.
Visiting hours will be held at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta, Noon to the memorial service at 1 p.m., onSaturday, April 5, 2008, with the Rev. John Burns, pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morris, officiating.
Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Otego, beside her husband and son, Bobby.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fox Adult Day Center, 21 Ford Ave., Oneonta, NY 13820, where Beatrice spent many pleasant years or to Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Dr., Oneonta, NY 13820.
