ONEONTA – Betty Jean Blanchard, 83, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2012 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.
She was born December 19, 1928 in Oneonta, the daughter of Lawrence and Minerva (Crandall) Young. She was one of 5 children.
Betty worked for Bassett Hospital and then for A.O. Fox Hospital in the Latcher Lab as a Technician. She then worked and retired from the food service program in the Oneonta School System.
She attended Elm Park Methodist Church, where she enjoyed going to the senior center to visit and play cards.
Before her health failed, she enjoyed square dancing, reading, going to lawn sales and most of all spending time with her cat.
Betty is survived by her husband, of 64 years, Charles; two daughters, Norine (Curt) Flack of Otego and Jodie (Fred) Gerowe of Oneonta; 5 grandchildren, Robin, Brooke, Michael, Nathan, and Garth, as well as 6 great-grandchildren, Paige, Lucas, Seth, Colin, Julia, and Maddox; a sister, Janice Ackley and brother, Mahlon Young. Betty is also survived by her special friend, Jessie (cat).
Betty is predeceased by her parents, and brothers, Jack and Larry.
Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 7, 2012 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, officiating.
Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Otego.
