Obituary

SCHENEVUS - Betty Seeber Scott, beloved wife of Leland Scott passed away on September 25, 2013 after courageously enduring various cancers for many years.

Betty was born November 21, 1943 in Laurens, the eldest daughter of James and Katherine Jester Seeber.

On a beautiful summer day, June 26, 1966, she married her life partner, Leland H. Scott, at the Laurens Presbyterian Church. This day was even more special because her younger sister, Helen, and husband to be Mitchell McMullen, were joined in holy matrimony in a double wedding ceremony.

Betty graduated from Laurens Central School in June 1962, and commenced employment at Wilber National Bank in Oneonta, NY. After holding various positions while employed at Wilber, she achieved the title of Assistant Vice President which she held in high regard. This union lasted 40 years with Betty retiring on December 31, 2002.

For many years Betty was a member of the Laurens Presbyterian Church but after her marriage, and relocating to Schenevus, she and her husband attended services at the First Baptist Church in Schenevus.

Betty was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Laurens and the Schenevus Fire Department Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed her crafts, especially counted cross-stitch projects and creating beautiful pieces with plastic canvas. Many friends have lovely gifts that she created especially for them. Betty thoroughly enjoyed the Saturdays spent with her three sisters when they would get together for the day and work on their crafts while enjoying each other's company. For years, Betty was an avid bowler being a member of the Ladies Sunday Traveling league. She attended many New York State tournaments.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 47 years; daughter, Kathleen Scott Steenback and son-in-law, Kevin Steenback and grandchildren, Nathan Scott Steenback and Alyssa Catherine Steenback. Also surviving are her sister, Dorothy and husband, Harry Walke; sister, Kay, and husband, Paul Cooper; brother in-law, Mitchell McMullen; cousins, Cynthia and husband, Ed Fisher; cousin, Beth and husband, Edmund Shultis, and best friend of many years, Audrey Anderson; as well as several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her parents, and sister, Helen McMullen.

A service to celebrate the life of Betty will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Schenevus with Pastor Norman Culver officiating. Following will be a time of fellowship and refreshments at the church to which everyone is welcome.
