DAVENPORT CENTER – Beverly J. Wetmore, 79, passed away at her home on Tuesday, June 17, 2008.
She was born October 19, 1928 in Oneonta, the daughter of E.F. and Clive (Bryant) Jester.
Beverly attended Greater Plains Elementary School through grade 6; then attended Oneonta Junior High School on Academy Street through the 9th grade. She graduated with honors from Oneonta Senior High School in 1947.
Beverly married George E. Wetmore on September 9, 1951 at the First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Harold C. Buckingham in Oneonta.
She was the mother to three lovely children, Susan and her husband, Stephen Collins of San Diego, CA, Judy Lynne and her husband, Edward Welch III of Otego, and Gary Steven Wetmore, who passed away in September 10, 1998.
She has one grandson, Michael Stephen Collins of San Diego, CA; one great-granddaughter, Aalayjah Michelle Collins of San Diego, CA.
Beverly had 10 brothers and sisters, six of whom are still living, Donald Jester of Endicott, Richard Jester of Webster, Rodney Jester of White Sulfur Springs, Bruce Jester of Oneonta, Nancy Rasmussen of Oneonta, and Betsy Squaires of Rochester. She was also blessed with many wonderful in –laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
Beverly was employed at Dr. John O. Whitaker's dental office, Bresee's Department Store and as a secretary for many years in the Admissions Office at the State University College at Oneonta.
She was very active in her church as choir mother, greeter, communion steward, WSCS circle and served on many committees.
She enjoyed "family" and friends immensely. She was an avid reader, gardener, puzzle-solver, cook, hooked-rug maker, quilter, traveler and a sojourner in tracing her family's genealogy.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2008 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta, with the Rev. Thomas Clemow, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
