Obituary

Robert Lynn (Bob or Boomer) Armstrong died of a heart attack at his Oneonta residence Saturday, January 30, 2010. He was the son of the late Lynn G. and Dorothy M. (Worden) Armstrong. He was 62.

Born in Delhi, NY, March 30, 1947, Bob graduated from Oneonta High School and the State University College at Delhi, NY. He served in the United States Navy.

Bob worked many years at Seeley Ceramics and later was a dedicated employee of Wilber National Bank, retiring just recently.

An avid sports enthusiast, Bob was an excellent athlete at Oneonta
High School, and as an adult, participated in bowling leagues at the Oneonta Elks Club and regularly played golf at Woodhaven Golf Course. Starting in childhood, Bob closely followed the destinies of teams and athletes at all levels of competition. He was an especially keen fan of local high school and collegiate sports.

Bob is survived by his sister, Beth Armstrong Benjamin and her husband Wayne, of Morris and his brother, John, and wife Susan, of Arizona.

Brian Armstrong, Bob's nephew, resides in Highland Falls with his wife, Brooke. Bob's niece, Randi Armstrong, is completing her doctoral work in veterinary school at Auburn University in Alabama.

His uncle, Robert Worden, of Bloomville, and several cousins also survive.

Bob was known for his support of the Oneonta Elks Club where he served as trustee.

His many friends will remember Bob for his honesty, integrity, and loyalty. They also will long recall "Boomer"'s love of Oneonta, a good meal, a good drink, and good friends.

Calling hours will be on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta, from Noon to the service at 2 p.m., starting with the Elks Lodge of Sorrows followed by the funeral service with the Rev. Sara Baron, pastor of the Morris United Methodist Church, officiating. Military honors will be presented by the United States Navy.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to commemorate Bob's life may make contributions in his name to BPOE Elks # 1312, 84 Chestnut Street, Oneonta, NY 13820.
