Obituary

Bruce E. Robinson of Maryland, NY died last Friday, April 12, 2013 at the age of 67, following several years of illness.

Born in Cooperstown to Torrey and Leonore Robinson, Bruce graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1963. He was an accomplished wrestler and runner, and went on to study and wrestle at Delhi Ag + Tech, and Rochester Institute of Technology. He worked as a mechanical engineer at General Electric in Schenectady for 12 years. His solution to a challenge on the Alaskan pipeline north of the Arctic Circle was recognized by G. E. with the Power Systems Sector Engineering Award.

After leaving G.E., he moved to Schroon Lake, NY, where he owned and operated Maypine Marina with his wife, Leah (Smith) until 2005. He was a very active member of the small community, accepting responsibilities in the local school board and volunteer fire department, among others. Living in the Adirondacks allowed him to spend a great deal of time hunting, skiing and hiking outdoors, which he loved tremendously.

Bruce will be remembered for his passion for bringing people together and making them laugh. He took tireless enjoyment in challenging himself and others with intellectual puzzles, and sharing his love of music (particularly the harmonica). Motorized vehicles of all shapes and sizes fascinated him. He was well known for his meticulous planning before initiating any of his numerous construction projects.

Bruce was predeceased by his brother, George. He is survived by his partner, Dottie Wehnau; his brother, John; and children, Becca and Nate (married to Linda Andersson) from his marriage with Leah, and his grandson, Kevin.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the Schenevus United Methodist Church, preceded by a calling hour starting at 10:00 am. A reception will follow.

Those wishing to make a donation are asked to sponsor the Schenevus United Methodist Church, PO Box 176, Schenevus, or the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, 205 Valder Rd., Schenevus, NY 12155
