WORCESTER – Burton B. Borst, 94, passed away January 17, 2023 at Chestnut Park Nursing Home, Oneonta.
He was born October 19, 1928 in Schenevus, the son of Alvin and Katherine (West) Borst.
Burt graduated from Andrew S. Draper Central School, Schenevus. While in high school he was a star basketball player helping the team reach high victories. After graduation he moved to Florida. He owned and operated a bar, and was the Service Manager at Broward Linen Service in Dania, FL.
After retirement Burt moved back to New York. He continued working as a sexton for the Schenevus Cemetery, the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester, and 16 years at the Dreams Park. He was an active member of the Schenevus Historical Society.
Burt enjoyed watching Jai Alai while living in FL, and always enjoyed going to the casinos and playing the lottery. He was a devoted Yankee and Miami Dolphin fan. He enjoyed watching The Lawrence Welk Show, and going out to breakfast with his family and friends.
Burt is survived by his companion of 31 years, Jeanne Branigan; her children, Michael Branigan, Kelly (Robert) Foster, Patrick (Lois) Branigan, and Daniel (Robin) Branigan; her grandchildren, Devlin, Kenton and Shaunna Foster, Samantha (Brandon) Grasso, Alyssa and Christopher (Jennifer) Branigan; and 3 great-grandchildren; Burt's niece, Bernice (Tom) Dawson, their children, Amy Butch, Travis and Christopher Deinlein; 5 great-grand nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Dora Corsall and his brother, Lester "Bud" Burton, who was killed in WWII.
Calling hours will begin at 11 a.m. with the funeral at 1 p.m., Monday, January 23, at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester, with the Rev. Paul Messner, officiating.
Burial at the Schenevus Cemetery will be Noon, Friday, May 26, 2023.
