Obituary

ONEONTA – Calvert I. Bailey, 87, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.



He was born November 18, 1921 in Ravena, the son of Irven L. and Bertha May (Tompkins) Bailey.



He was a United States Army Air Force veteran serving during World War II.



Cal was married to Eleanor Cook, who predeceased him in 1964. He then married Caroline Vroman on October 10, 1964 in Oneonta.



Cal was the Assessor for the City of Oneonta, The Director of Real Property Tax Services for Otsego County and was the proprietor of Bailey's Appraisal Service in Oneonta.



He was a member of the Elm Park United Methodist Church, the Oneonta Rotary Club and a 50 year member of the Oneonta Masonic Lodge No. 466.



Cal is survived by his wife, Caroline Bailey; his children, Patricia Bruno and Richard of Ravena, Charlie Bailey and Polly of Oneonta, Debra Ostrander of Oneonta, Thomas Bailey and Glenda of Virginia, Ted and Kathy Bailey of Oneonta and Mary Anne Bailey Cohen and Jules, of New York City; grandchildren, Darlene, Richard, Leia, Lisa, Trevor, Ian, Hunter, Graham, Dianne, April, Ben, Amanda, Jamie, Tracy, Kris, Colin, Joshua, Todd, Cameron, Jonathan, Sarah and Jenny; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Bailey of Ravena; and many nieces and nephews.



He was predeceased by 6 brothers and 2 sisters.



Calling hours will be held 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta, a Masonic service at 7 p.m.



The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Bailey, son of Cal and pastor of St. Mathews Episcopal Church in Unadilla, officiating.



Interment with military honors will follow at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
