Obituary

ONEONTA - Carole S. Burnsworth, age 77 passed away on July 2, 2016 after a brief illness. All three of her children and her husband were at her side as was her sister, Sally.

She was born in Albany on August 31, 1938, the daughter of Sam and Viola Scranton.

A graduate of Schoharie Central School, she earned her Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Oneonta.

Carole married Dr. Charles Burnsworth on December 27, 1959 and together they had fifty-six years of wonderful marriage.

Survivors include her husband, Charles; daughter, Kathy Lazarovich and husband, Paul of Middleboro, Massachusetts; sons, Kevin of Oneonta and David and wife, Amy; and six cherished grandchildren, Meaghan and Shannon Lazarovich, Samantha and Ian Burnsworth and Avery and Owen Burnsworth, all who adored her. She is also survived by two sisters, May VanOrt, and husband, Wesley of Castleton and Sally Law and husband, Jerry of Cobleskill. .

While raising her children, Carole served as Office Manager for three different dentists, most recently for Dr. Jeff Goldfarb. Carole was instrumental in organizing and leading the Oneonta Fresh Air program inviting children from New York City to spend part of the summer in area homes. An active member of Oneonta's First Presbyterian Church, Carole proudly served as a church Elder as well as a member of many church committees over the years. Carole was also a long-time member of the P.E.O Philanthropic Organization for Women, and hosted the Annual Christmas meeting of that organization each year.

Carole's love, commitment and devotion to her family was evident in everything she did. "Nana" enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren making cookies, boomerangs and pies, picking blueberries, playing tennis, making Christmas ornaments, watching The Sound of Music, going to the pool, and having them sleepover for bedtime stories and back rubbing. She was in perpetual motion.

Carole was at home in her garden - happily working on the beautiful hanging baskets and window boxes which adorned her home each summer. Together with her loving husband Chuck, Carole spent the winter months in New Port Richey, Florida where she was an avid golfer and member of the Seven Springs Country Club.

Her family has gathered on Cape Cod to celebrate her life. The Cape was a special place to Carole where she spent time during the summer since her childhood and where she found peace and happiness surrounded by her family.

A memorial service to celebrate her life is scheduled for 2:00 PM July 23, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Oneonta, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. All who knew her are invited to attend.
