Obituary

WORCESTER - Born December 10, 1928 in Rockaway Beach, Queens, New York, died May 18, 2018, Catherine Althiser was predeceased by her husband, Roy; her son, Joseph, and loving grandson, Ryan James Althiser. Kay as she was known was the youngest of five children and daughter of Joseph Carentz and Louise Tromer Carentz.  She brought many hours of joy to her parents and siblings with her love and talent of tap dancing.  She was recognized with many certificates and ribbons for her dancing.  Shirley Temple was always her idol, in later years she enjoyed collecting Temple dolls, movies, and any memorabilia.

She loved her grandson, Chad and wife Tara.  She was the great-grandmother of Brooke Elizabeth, Jacob Ryan, and Max Reuben and they loved her dearly.  Her final days were spent with her son, Roy and daughter-in-law, Chris at their home.

Catherine was a seamstress most of her life and worked in factories located in Cobleskill and Oneonta. Later in life she worked at Worcester Central School cafeteria until retirement.

She always enjoyed stitching and crafting for her niece, Barbara Bartow to help prepare for Barbara's open house in Middlefield for Dickens of a Christmas. She was very particular and each stich had to be perfect.

Catherine was an active member of Zion St. John's Lutheran Church in Seward.  She was also past member of the Worcester American Legion Post 1584.

Catherine had many nieces and nephews who had fond memories of her.  Her niece, Janet Carentz Schliermann with her gentle kindness always brightened her day with flowers or a meaningful gift. When she did not find Aunt Kay at home she always left a loving note at the door.  Nephew, Joey Carentz with his untiring ambition never came to visit without paintbrush in hand and ready for a day's work.  Keith Althiser spent many long hot hours replacing her barn roof and confessed he did not really like heights.  Bill Carentz with his professional smile and his interest in genealogy gave her a reason to always look forward to his visits.  She spent many memorable holidays at the Head residence with Rich, Val, Bethany, and Hilari where she was treated as family and appreciated the love they shared.

Our appreciation and thanks to all who helped with Kay, her prime care Dr. Anthony Cammilleri, his nurse Dawn and receptionist Lynn for their kindness and patience.
