Oneonta – Cecilia Judd Russell, 80, passed away at her home on January 2, 2021.
She was born July 19, 1940 as a child of the beautiful Ouleout Valley to Maurice and Edith (Osterhout) Judd.
As a graduate of Franklin Central School, Albany Business College and the State University College at Oneonta, she was very active in numerous school activities also representing the Franklin Firemen's Association and New York State Dairymen's League as queen for their group.
She attained a Master's degree from SUNY and taught in her field for 32 years. Working with the Future Homemaker's Youth Group and promoting two State Officers of the group. Her enjoyment of all students was evident earning her awards of Master Advisor, Advisor Mentor, and Region 8 Teacher of the Year.
Cecilia enjoyed memberships in the Ouleout Eastern Star (serving as Matron), Otsego County Youth Bureau, Susquehanna Valley Quilters, Delta Gamma Rho Chapter, Rolling Antiquer's Old Car Club, and volunteering for Saturday's Bread, Orpheus Theatre, and many activities at the First United Methodist Church. Her involvement in the Oneonta Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was a very important part of her life, serving as Oneonta Chapter Regent, President of the Southern Tier DAR Council, State Officer's Club and State and Vice Chairmanship Associations. She proudly served as Daughters of the American Revolution State Directors for District VI, helping to make the 14 local chapters successful in promoting education, preserving our past and fostering patriotism.
Cecilia was privileged to live in Pine Lakes, Florida for many years during the winter months, enjoying the friendships of the many people in her cul-de-sac. She also shared her father's love of travel and adventure as well as the appreciation of this beautiful country.
Cecilia was predeceased by her husband, Gerald T. Russell, Sr. and her parents, Maurice E. and Edith (Osterhoudt) Judd.
She is survived by her sons, Gerald Thomas Russell, Jr. and wife, Melissa (Jeffers), of Sacramento, CA, and Rick Russell and wife, Constanza (Vargas), of Mt. Airy, MD; her precious grandchildren, Briana, Sara, Lucas, Emma, and Jacob; her brother, Maurice E. Judd and Wife, Patricia Heron of Franklin; niece, Elizabeth (Judd) and husband, Michael Howland of Franklin and nephew, Ed Judd and his significant other, Lisa. Cecilia's love and affection of her family was truly boundless, enjoying many visits to their homes.
A service of celebration will be 2 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Marti Swords-Horrell, officiating. She will be laid to rest in the church columbarium. Please wear a face covering and maintain social distancing,
