Cooperstown Junction – Charles M. Bostwick, 78, passed away March 14, 2023 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown surrounded by his loving family.
Chuck was born June 6, 1944 at home in Cooperstown Junction, the son of Ellery M. and Dorothy (Quick) Bostwick.
He served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1966, then in the United States Army from 1966 to 1983. Chuck was a highly decorated veteran including a Purple Heart and several Bronze Stars. He retired as a Sergeant First Class PSG from the Army.
Chuck was employed at the Otsego County Sheriff's Department from 1988 to 2005, retiring as a Lieutenant Jail Administrator. He served as president of the Otsego County Deputy Sheriff's Association.
He married Wanda R. Reeve on February 17, 1996. Together they raised their family, son, Wade B. Bostwick and his son, Andrew Wheat; daughter, Gina R. Bostwick and her sons, Christopher M. and Adam M. Bostwick. The family went on many vacations to railroad destinations for train adventures. He was a big history lover, especially the Civil War, with multiple vacations to Gettysburg, PA.
Chuck volunteered at the Milford Fire Department for over 10 years and the American Red Cross for many years. He coached Little League in Milford. He was a scout leader with the Otsego County Sheriff's Department and was a certified NYS Police Instructor.
While in high school, he was a tackle #54 for the only undefeated Oneonta High School Football Team in 1960. He was also Interstate Wrestling Champion of New York.
He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda; daughter, Gina; grandsons, Christopher and Adam, at home and Andrew of Syracuse; sister, Elaine (Dale) Eager of Cooperstown Junction; brothers-in-law, Jack Currie of Schenevus and Louis Reeve of Oneonta; sister-in-law, Linda Bostwick of Milford; very special cousins, Carol and Leroy Bostwick of Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Wade Bostwick; brothers, Robert, Melvin, and Ellery Bostwick; and sister, Joan Bostwick Currie.
There will be no services at this time. A graveside service with Military Honors will take place at Cooperstown Junction Cemetery at a later date.
