Oneonta - Charles J. Dent, 76, passed away September 25, 2023 in Oneonta.

He was born October 24, 1946 in Davenport, the son of Joseph Hollingworth and Myrtle Eleanor (Barker) Dent.

Charles graduated from the Charlotte Valley Central School in Davenport.  He attended college and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. After being discharged with the rank of Sergeant, he served in the Peace Corps.

He married Margaret Miller on November 7, 1982.

Charles worked for 30 years at the South Kortright NYS DFY & OCFS as a Professional Child-Care Worker.

He enjoyed gardening, playing cards especially pinochle and was passionate about his coin collection.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Dent; children, Laurie (Todd) Burrows and Eric Miller; grandchildren, Lucas and Brooke Burrows and Baylee Lowe; siblings, Irwin Dent, Harriet Shipman, Mina Austin, John Dent, Ruthie Fyfe, Janet Ouimet and Ginny Donnelly; brother-in-law, Robert Miller and many nieces and nephews.

His parents predeceased him.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, October 3 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Reverend Ken Zulkosky officiating.

The burial with military honors will follow at Charlotte Valley Cemetery, County Route 11 in West Davenport.
