Charles Bowman Groff was born July 12, 1920 in Cooperstown, NY. He grew up on the family farm in Schenevus, NY with parents Stanley and Mary.  Charles was graduated from Worcester High School in 1939 and attended Delhi Tech School in 1940 taking up Building Trades.  In 1944 Charles joined the Carpenters Union in Oneonta, NY and during the War Years he worked on several large Wartime projects the largest being the first Atomic Plant in Knoxville, TN.

Charles married Eleanor Ledger, a teacher at Schenevus High School, in June of 1943 and in the Summer of 1944, they moved to Bainbridge, NY. Charles worked for various contractors for a few years before starting his own building business under the name Quality Builders and built many of the houses in Bainbridge and Sidney, NY including the hospital in Sidney.

Retiring in 1973 Charles and Eleanor bought a Winter home in Port Saint Lucie, FL that they enjoyed for several years. After Eleanor passed away in April of 2001, Charles met Jewel Monroe in 2002 in Port Saint Lucie, FL and were married September 2003. They shared many Winters in Florida and Summers in Sidney, NY. Their final years were spent in Sidney, NY and Jewel passed away September 2016.

Charles passed away August 7, 2019 in Norwich, NY. He is survived by his son, Dana Groff, his daughter-in-law Ernestine Colasurdo; Jewels children and the many, many friends that he made along the way both new and old. He was much loved in the community.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m., September 7, 2019 at the Sidney Bible Baptist Church, 32 West Main St., Sidney, NY and interment will immediately follow at the Schenevus Cemetery.
