Charles Karl Herzog, 90, of Worcester, NY, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2017.
Charlie, the son of the late Andrew and Emma (Rust) Herzog, was born April 12, 1926 in Nuremburg, Germany. The Herzog family emigrated to the United States when Charlie was an infant and settled in Upstate New York. When Charlie was 17 years old, he joined the United States Army to fight in World War II in Europe. While in Europe, Charlie became a naturalized United States Citizen. Upon returning from the war, Charlie entered the family business, which eventually became C. Herzog Supply Co., where Charlie, known for his strong work ethic, worked until he was 90 years old.
Charlie was very active in the community and various organizations, including the Masons, the Shriners, Rotary Club, the East Worcester and Worcester Fire Departments, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the WorSchenevus Club and the East Worcester Fish and Game Club. Charlie loved spending time sailing and deep sea fishing (and even had a sailfish mounted on his living room wall to prove it). Charlie also loved spending warm summer days at his lake house, "The Camp", with his family, and enjoying the lake's end of summer clambake.
On July 18, 1948, Charlie married the late Muriel Ruth Preston and raised four children, eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Muriel passed away much too soon on April 12, 1996. On April 9, 2016, Charlie married Sharon Mowers intending to spend their golden years together.
Charlie was predeceased by his wife, Muriel (Preston) Herzog; his daughter, Kathy (Herzog) Shaw and his brother, Harry Herzog.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Sharon (Mowers) Herzog; his children, Colleen (Herzog) Eager, Dennis and wife, Kim Herzog and Tina (Herzog) and husband, Gus DeFilippis; his grandchildren, Cynthia (Shaw) Slutsky, Douglas Shaw, Rebecca Eager, Pamela (Eager) Liou, Benjamin Eager, Gregory Eager, Nicholas DeFilippis, and Alexander DeFilippis; his great grandchildren, Adam Boucher, Jonah Slutsky, Reid Slutsky, Meghan Shaw, Avery Liou, Oliver Liou, MiKayla Eager, Preston Eager, Seamus Eager, Gabriella Eager, Brandon Eager, Zachary Eager and CeCeilia Eager; his sister, Eleanor (Herzog) Rostohar; sister-in-law, Marion Herzog; step children, Susie Baker, Diana Hughes, and James Mowers and countless other people who knew and loved Charlie.
Charlie loved his family and will be missed greatly by them.
A Masonic Service followed by Military Honors will be 1 p.m., Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Schenevus Valley Masonic Lodge, Main Street, Schenevus.
