West Oneonta - Charles F. Hobbib, 70, passed away on February 9, 2024 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
He was born June 23, 1953 in Plainfield, NJ, the son of Joseph B. and Mae (Thompson) Hobbib.
Charles grew up in North Plainfield and graduated from North Plainfield High School. He then went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from SUNY Oneonta.
One of Charles's greatest passions was Karate. He studied under and trained with a great master, Master Fumio Demura. Charles was proud to have fought in the world championship a Japan tournament. He eventually opened the Oneonta Karate Studio. He was a dedicated instructor to many students at several area high schools and colleges. He continued with his parent's business, The Beer Barrel which has been operating for 53 years. Charles also owned several apartment houses.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing, boxing, going to casinos, and watching football with his sons.
He is survived by his children, Diana Hobbib Shanks, Charles Hobbib, and Michael Hobbib; grandchildren, Edwin and Raquel Milette, Nija McDaniel, Tatiana and Tahneya Shanks; great-grandchildren, Kian, Braelyn and Juelian D'Angelo and Paul Marino; his significant other and mother of his son Michael, Barbara Spataro and step-children, Victoria and Joe Spataro; his son Charles' mother, Karey Foster and step-son, Nick Andrews; his cousins, George, Diane, Sally, Karen, Susan, Dewey, Michael, Shawn and Danielle; and his baby, beloved dog, Champ.
A celebration of life will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at the Dojo, 3 Elm Street, Oneonta. Refreshments will follow at Nina's Pizzeria, 299 Main St., Oneonta.
Interment with his parents and brother, Joseph will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery at a later date.
