SCHENEVUS – Charles L. Muehl, 69, passed away Friday, January 1, 2010 at Bassett Healthcare Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born March 2, 1940 in Oneonta, the son of John William and Amelia (Milavec) Muehl.
Chuck was a United States Navy veteran serving from 1958 to 1962. He was on the USS Constellation during its commissioning and became a plank owner.
He married Carol Munson on March 21, 1964 in Nevada.
Chuck was a self employed contractor since 1969. He also worked for many local cemeteries as a grave excavator.
He was a member of the St. Mary's/St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Chuck served on the Schenevus School Board for 10 years and was at one time the President of the Board. He also was the Maryland Town Assessor for 10 years.
Chuck was a loving husband, father, "Poppie" and friend to many. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a smile on his face and a hello for friends as well as strangers! He was a good man with a great heart! He was a light in many lives that will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Muehl of Schenevus; daughters, Lisa and husband, John Cooper of Oneonta and Stacey and husband, Ernie Camilleri of Westford; step-children, Linda Briggs of Maryland and Bob Sutton, Jr. of Maryland; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanne and husband, Morris France of Phoenix, AZ and Janice and husband, Doug Childress of Orange, TX; sister-in-law, Carolyn Muehl of Schenevus; brother-in-law, John and wife, Gloria Munson of Worcester; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, John "Jack" Muehl.
A Memorial Mass at St. Joseph's Church and interment with military honors at the Schenevus Cemetery will be announced later in the spring.
