ONEONTA – Claire Cannon, 79, formerly of Burlington Flats and Brentwood, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2009.

She was born October 13, 1929 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Felix and Valeria (Lasocka) Kopcinski.

Claire married Edward M. Cannon on April 29, 1950 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Long Island City.

She was employed with the New York State Worker's Compensation Board in Manhattan for 23 years, retiring in 1983.

She and her husband moved to Burlington Flats in 1987.

Claire is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen and husband, James Angell of Commack; a daughter-in-law, Bernadette Cannon of Oneonta; grandchildren, Jennifer and husband, Joseph Harkenreader of Oneonta, Timothy Cannon of Oneonta and Claire Angell of Commack; 2 great grandsons, Taylor and Caden Harkenreader; 1 sister and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years on December 24, 2008; and their two sons, Timothy and William Cannon.

Calling hours will be held 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Walnut Street, Oneonta, with the Reverend Joseph Benintende, as celebrant.

The committal service for Claire and Edward will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons at a later date.
