ONEONTA – Clifton H. Root, 89, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, in Oneonta.
He was born October 15, 1919 in Baldwinsville, the son of Fred and Rosina (Turner) Root.
Cliff married Lena A. Wyckoff on November 24, 1946 in Oneonta. She predeceased him on May 5, 1998.
He was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II, obtaining the rank of master sergeant.
Cliff was hard working, holding many jobs as a young man. He was the owner of the Corner Store in Oneonta from 1948 to 1968; he then went to work for M&L Electric in Oneonta until retirement.
He was a life member of the BPOE # 1312, where he was a trustee for many years and the Seneca River Masonic Lodge # 0160.
Cliff was inducted into the Oneonta Bowlers Hall of Fame. He enjoyed golfing and fishing, but most especially enjoyed the time he spent with his beloved granddaughters.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Bev and Doug Barnett of Schenevus; two granddaughters, Jen and her husband, Corey Pier of Worcester and Kim Banner of Oneonta; and three cousins.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta, from 11 a.m. to the service time at Noon, with the Rev. Keith VanDewerker, officiating. Military honors will be presented at the funeral home.
Interment will be at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
