Dan K. Wickham, 82, passed away after a brief illness at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, NY, on October 10, 2026. He was born May 10, 1944, in Norwich, NY, the son of William Wickham II and Barbara (Barnum) Wickham. He graduated from Norwich High School before continuing his higher education at Orange County Community College, Buena Vista University, and earned his Master’s degree from SUNY Cortland.

Dan started his teaching career at Afton Central Schools as a biology and chemistry teacher. In 1969, he became a physical education teacher at Unatego Central Schools. He coached many sports, though his passion and his "claim to fame" was wrestling. In 1983, he led the first Class D school to win the overall Section IV Wrestling Championship, and his team was ranked seventh overall across all of New York State. Dan was also an assistant wrestling coach for Oneonta High School alongside his good friend, Tom Marks. In 2009, Dan was honored with his induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

An avid golfer, Dan achieved a hole-in-one at the Ouleout Creek Golf Course in May of 2020 in Franklin, NY. He was a member of the Sidney Elks Lodge #2175, where he served as Chaplain. Dan was a hard worker who was extremely proud of his two sons. He and his wife enjoyed traveling across the country in their RV, spending time with their many couples including Ron & Jennifer Hevener and Paul & Deb Bouton. As an outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking long walks.

He is survived by his wife, best friend, and love of his life, Ursula (Hall) Wickham; sons, Keith (Elizabeth) Wickham and Scott (Melissa) Wickham; grandchildren, Katelyn (Aaron), Justin, Kelsey (David), Keilly (Will), Scott Seamus (Kylie), Madison (Travis), Liam (Gianna); great-grandson, Wyatt; brother, William Wickham III; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Carol and George, Denise and Mike, Taylor, Morgan, and Meghan.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Weston; and his grandson, Robert.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, October 16, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz Street, Oneonta.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 17, at St. James Episcopal Church, 305 Main Street, Oneonta, with the Rev. Ivan Ruiz-Swartz, officiating.
