On Sunday, February 16, 2025 Daniel "Danny" E Baker, 83, passed away peacefully in his home on Schenevus South Hill surrounded by his loving family. Danny has battled cancer since 2020.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Roxanna Baker; his children, Rochelle Bartow, Ruthellen Buddenhagen, Daniel Baker (Tigger), and Donald Baker; his brother, Laverne Baker; his grandchildren, Daniel Smith and Debra Worden, Saphire Baker and Sean Buddenhagen, Larry-Donald and Kylie Buck; his great-grandchildren, Gunner Smith, Christian and Jade Worden.

Danny was retired from The Town of Maryland Highway Department and the City of Oneonta. He was born on South Hill in 1941 to Gerald and Ruth Baker and lived most of his life in Schenevus. He was a great mechanic and handyman, there wasn't anything Danny couldn't fix. Danny was a popular Schenevus resident and never hesitated to say hello to anyone he met. He might not remember your name but he would still greet you with a smile.

He was an excellent teacher and believed the best way for us to learn was to get our hands dirty and talk us through it. He taught us all not only how to rebuild a carburetor but how to be patient, kind and how to complain about it later. And if you couldn't find the tool you were using that it was usually in your pocket.

Danny loved his family, and the friends that became family. Over the years he and his wife "adopted" many friends that they considered their children as well.

He loved animals, even the pesky ones, like Stupid Kitty and the albino skunk that thought it was a cat. He never hunted, but he would trap animals and release them miles away to be someone else's problem. His favorite place to be was outside, either mowing the lawn or just doing repairs in the sun.

Services for Danny will be at the Kingdom Hall, 3985 NY-23 in West Oneonta on Saturday, March 22nd at 4pm.

A celebration of life will follow the burial on Friday July18th, time TBD
