ONEONTA – David L. Clapp, 72, passed away peacefully at home on June 4, 2021 with his family and friends at his side.

He was born July 29, 1948 in Oneonta, the son of Richard and Clara (Jensen) Clapp.

Dave graduated from Oneonta High School.

He proudly served our country in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal.

Dave married LuAnne Smith on August 23, 1975 in Oneonta.

Dave was employed for 23 years with the Oneonta Police Department, and 23 years with Hartwick College Safety Department.   He also worked at various part time jobs to help support his family.

He was a member of the Oneonta American Legion and the Oneonta PBA.

Dave enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, LuAnne Clapp; children, Peggy J. (Eric) Travis of Sidney, and David J. Clapp of Oneonta; grandson, Joseph Travis of Sidney; siblings, Wayne (Sally) Clapp of Ohio and Jennifer (Kevin) Galloway of Illinois; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Stephen and William Clapp.

Calling hours will be held Noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 13 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

The memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 14 at the Atonement Lutheran Church, 1 Center St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Paul Messner, officiating.

Per CDC Guidelines, fully vaccinated no mask required, not fully vaccinated please wear a mask.

The interment with Military Honors will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.
