Oneonta – David J. Downie, 77, kicked the eternal bucket with his children by his side on May 17, 2022.

He was born April 9, 1945 in Buffalo.  He died on his beloved mother's birthday, Mary Grace (Howell) Downie.

David was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1966 to 1969 and obtained the rank of Sergeant, Canine Corp Military Police.

He moved to Oneonta in 1985 from the Buffalo area.  David was the manager at Southside Mall in Oneonta for many years.  He was the president and founder of the Skybox at Demaschke Field.  He was an avid fan of the NY Yankees; as well as the Oneonta Yankees and Oneonta Tigers and in 13 years he never missed one of their games.

Pops sense of humor was loved by many and hated by most.

He had a devout faith with the Roman Catholic Church.

He is survived by his children, Kate "the favorite" (John) Totten of Tampa, Fla, Anne "the real favorite" (Jason) Sufleta of East Meredith, Erin "the actual favorite" (Bobby) Behnke of Gilbertsville, and LT. David J. Downie II "the golden boy" (Corrin) Downie of Jacksonville, Fla.; the mother of his children, Beverly; 22 grandchildren; his brothers, Bill Downie of Buffalo, Mark Korzelius of Buffalo, and Vernon Sliviak of Maryland.

Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

The funeral mass will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta.  Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta, with military honors.
