Obituary

David P. Lupia, 74, of Richfield Springs, NY passed away on August 1, 2021.

He was born in Utica, NY on July 15, 1947 to Paul and Frances (Talerico) Lupia.

David graduated from the Whitesboro Central School in 1965. After his tour of duty in the United States Army he received his Teaching Certificate from Oneonta State College in 1972.  He taught thirty years of elementary school in the Sidney Central School system.  Twenty-two of those years were spent teaching 4 th Grade in the Masonville Elementary School.  Dave always felt very fortunate to have been a part of the family atmosphere with the community, the children and the Masonville staff.  Having spent most of his teaching career in that setting was something he cherished and was so grateful for.  Dave was appointed Head Teacher at the Masonville school from 1992-2002.  He was also named Teacher Of The Year for Sidney School District in 1988.

Dave was the original Program Director for the Rotary District 7170's Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Conference. He held that position for eight years then continued his involvement as a counselor for seven more years.

After retiring from teaching Dave was a Supervisor of Student Teachers and an Adjunct Lecturer at SUCO teaching elementary science classes.

Dave and his wife had a kayak rental business, Ladybug Kayak Rentals that was based out of their home on Canadarago Lake. Dave enjoyed the customers and especially liked being named Employee Of The Month by his wife.

Dave enjoyed fishing. Fishing in a lake, pond, stream or ocean, it was one of his favorite things to do.  He enjoyed playing pickleball as well.  Many hours were spent on the pickleball courts in Melbourne Beach, Florida.

David is survived by his wife, Nancy. He was always in awe as to her love, devotion, and ability to put up with him.  He was blessed to have her as his companion.  His daughter, Rachael and grandchildren, Nolan, Collin and Alivia.  His grandchildren were always a joy for him.  He loved doing things like science experiments, fishing, and shooting hoops with them.  His mother-in-law, Beverly and brothers-in-law, Russ and Ron.  Several cousins on both the Lupia and Talerico sides of his family.  And many, many, many dear friends.  He loved each and every one.
