Worcester, NY – Dennis P. Carey, 66, passed away August 10, 2025, at home doing what he loved most – fishing.

He was born April 15, 1959 in Rockville Centre, the son of Richard and Barbara (Hoey) Carey.

Dennis married Joanne Tursi on September 30, 1988 in Farmingdale.

He was a Police Officer for the New York City Police Department for 20 years, retiring in 2001.  Shortly after he began working at the Rocky Point Middle School for another 20 years where he was loved by all. After retiring for the second time in 2024, he and Joanne then moved to their country home and beautiful property in the town of Decatur.  Dennis was happiest fishing, spending time outdoors, and "futzing" around with his many projects.  He and his family enjoyed 35 special years at their favorite summer vacation cabin in Orwell, Vermont.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joanne; their daughter, Samantha Carey (Alec Milucky); his mother, Barbara Carey; his brother, Ricky and Lisa Carey, and their son, James Carey; and his adored fur grand dog Hank.

He was predeceased by his father; his siblings, Michael and Laura; and his grandfather, Pop.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
