SCHENEVUS – Donald R. Connor, Sr., 79, passed away suddenly at home with his wife by his side Friday, August 31, 2012.
He was born June 9, 1933 in Manhattan, the son of Thomas F. Connor Sr. and Lucy (Franzese) Connor.
Donald graduated from Bayside High School in Queens.
He was a United States Navy veteran and served during the Korean War on the USS Missouri (BB-63) and other ships. Additionally, he was a proud and active member of the USS Missouri Association. Donald hosted many Eastern Conferences where members gathered to plan for a yearly reunion event.
Donald married Lorraine Kurtz on September 7, 1957 at St. Mel's Catholic Church in Flushing.
He retired from the Sheet Metal Local Union No. 28 after 32 years of employment. He also was a Real Estate Agent in Cobleskill for several years.
Donald and his family looked forward to the spending time in at their vacation home in Schenevus. He was very happy to retire to his beloved home in the hills. Everyone knew him for his quick wit, funny personality, and endless hours of "ship" stories.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; Donald is survived by his wife, Lorraine Connor of Schenevus; children, Jean Connor of Boca Raton, FL, Patty Carimando (Steve Naatz) of Schenevus, Donald (Puanai) Connor Jr. of Haverstraw, James Connor (Craig Pearson) of Effort, PA and Lorraine (Tony) Pepaj of Schenevus; grandchildren, Susan, Anthony, Angelo, Christopher, Jackie, Stephanie, Joseph, and Kaitlyn; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Anthony and Olivia; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, and two brothers, Thomas Connor Jr. and William Connor.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Heller Funeral Home, Schenevus.
A Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 201 Main St., Worcester, with the Rev. Ronald Green, MM, as celebrant.
Interment with military honors will follow at the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Worcester.
