Donald N. Fletcher of Oneonta went to be with his heavenly father and rejoin his earthly father on November 20, 2006. Mr. Fletcher was born July 17, 1938 in Oneonta, N.Y., son of the late Clarence D. and Catherine H. Fletcher.
Don was a retired schoolteacher who lived and worked in the Oneonta area all his life
He was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi. He enjoyed traveling, going out with friends and walks with his dog, Rags. He was known for his storytelling and recollections of family history.
He is survived by one sister-in-law, Jean M. Fletcher of Midlothian, VA and one brother-in-law, George Downing of Vicksburg, MS. He is also survived by three nephews, C. Richard Fletcher and his wife, Linda of Palmyra, VA, Daniel H. Fletcher and his wife, Rhonda of Troy, VA and Eric D. Fletcher and his wife, Antoinette of Chesterfield, VA; two nieces, Cyrena Downing of Vicksburg, MS and Lydia Kendall and her husband, James of Cleveland, MS. Nine great nieces and nephews also survive him. Don was surrounded with many dear and close friends who were his family in New York. He was predeceased by his sister, Virginia Downing and his brother, Clarence E. Fletcher.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m., Friday, December 8, 2006, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta with Rev. Stephen Reese, pastor of the Columbus Community Church, officiating.
