SCHENEVUS – Donald L. Trask, 82, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness.
He was born August 16, 1926 in Unadilla, the son of Arthur & Rosella (Fazzone) Trask.
Don was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II on the Threadfin Submarine and obtained the rank of Yeoman 3rd Class.
Don married Estella VanBuren on April 23, 1949 in Otego.
He was employed by Agway in Cobleskill as a Feed & Seed Agronomist/Dairy Specialist for over 30 years.
Don was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Schenevus, the Schenevus VFW Post 2752, where he served as past commander, Schenevus Valley Masonic Lodge No. 592, where he once served as Master, member and past chief of the C.H. Graham Hose Co., and a charter member of the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, was currently the Vice President and Trustee of the Schenevus Cemetery Association; was a former Trustee for Wilber National Bank, Otsego County Representative, and Maryland Town Supervisor.
Don enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Estella Trask of Schenevus; his children, Jim and Chris Trask of Schenevus, Cathy and Dave Craig of Cooperstown, Patty Trask and Clint Ritch of Cherry Valley, and Deb and Mark Bergerson of Morris; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean M. Trask of Blairsville, GA, Elma and Bob Kirk of Hamden; brothers, Joe Hendrick of Gabbs, NV, Duane and Debbie Trask of Laurens; sisters-in-law, Marcia Trask and Marge Trask; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Bob and Louis Trask and family friend, Beverly A. Hoot.
Calling hours will be held Friday, June 5, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home, Schenevus, with a Masonic service at 6 p.m.
The funeral service will be Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Word of Faith Church in Cooperstown Junction, with the Rev. Richard Knudson pastor of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church and Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, officiating.
Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Schenevus Cemetery.
