SCHENEVUS – Dorothy R. Beams, 89, passed away peacefully December 4, 2015 at Kingsway Manor in Schenectady.

She was born May 10, 1926 in Cooperstown, the daughter of Charles and Mabel (Skillen) VanCuren.

She married Frederick E. Beams on October 10, 1948 in Oneonta. He predeceased her on September 3, 1987.

Dorothy was the secretary for the Andrew S. Draper Central School in Schenevus for over 25 years until her retirement in 1988.

She was a former Trustee and Treasurer for the Village of Schenevus until 1969. She was also the Mayor from 1991 to 1994; and was the last Mayor of Schenevus. She was a member of the Schenevus Fire Department Auxiliary. She served on the Schenevus School Board and was the Program Director for the Town of Maryland Young at Heart Senior Citizen's Club.

She is survived by four children, Linda (Jim) Hurley of Oneonta, David (Wendy) Beams of Sarasota, FL, Sandra (Jim) Lifgren of Santee, CA and Susan (John) Risler of Albany; 9 grandchildren, Tiffany (Mark) Carr, David Hurley, Kali (Angelo) Lopipero, Lindsey Beams, Christopher Lifgren, Michael Lifgren, Matthew (Kelly) Risler, Patrick Risler, and Anne Risler; 2 great-grandchildren, Brady and Kylie Carr; 5 sisters-in-law, Grace VanCuren, Eleanor VanCuren, Marjorie Scale, Sharon Campbell, Jane Beams; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service at the Schenevus Cemetery will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2016, with the Rev. Keith VanDewerker. officiating.
