ONEONTA – Dorothy B. Ryan, 92, passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, after a short illness.

She was born October 5, 1919 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Ralph and Agnes (Curragh) Baumgardt.

She married Cornelius Ryan, MD on September 3, 1947 in Oneonta.

She was a graduate of Hartwick College in Oneonta, and attended the Graduate School of English at Columbia University. She taught English at the high school and junior college level including one year substitute teaching at Oneonta High School.

Mrs. Ryan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oneonta, a longtime member of the Oneonta Country Club, past president of the North East Women's Golf Association and past president of the Girl Scout Council of Oneonta. She also enjoyed playing tennis and duplicate bridge as well as sailing and boating with her family on Otsego Lake.

She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Ryan Keefe (and husband John) of Waltham, MA and Elizabeth Ryan of Jericho, VT; step grandsons, Donald Keefe and Michael Keefe, and Michael's sons, Michael and Jack Keefe, all of Leominster, MA.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1996.

Interment will be private at the Glenwood Cemetery in Oneonta.
