WORCESTER – Dorothy D. Simonson, 107, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the Schohanna Adult Home in Worcester.
She was born September 10, 1902 in Weymouth, Mass., the daughter of Irville F. and Helen (VanWagner) Davidson.
Dorothy married Richard More Simonson on September 29, 1926 at St. James' Episcopal Church in Oneonta.
Mrs. Simonson received a BA degree in 1924 and a BS in Library Science from the New York State College for Teachers in 1940, now the University at Albany, State University of New York. She also did graduate work at Syracuse University and St. Lawrence University.
Mrs. Simonson taught 32 ½ years, all in Worcester, except the first year, which was in Hancock. She retired in 1964.
She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Simonson of Worcester.
Mrs. Simonson was predeceased by her brother, John J. Davidson in 1965.
She was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, the New York State Retired Teachers Association, AARP, the Worcester Women's Club, the Worcester Historical Association and the Church of the Holy Spirit, Schenevus.
A memorial service and interment in the Roxbury Cemetery will be announced later in the spring.
As per Mrs. Simonson's request there will be no calling hours.
