Mr. Parsons, a son of the late George and Joyce Parsons, was born on June 4, 1943 in Rockville Centre. He graduated from Port Jervis High School, The Manlius School, and SUNY Cortland. A veteran of the United States Army, Doug served with the Army Engineers in Vietnam, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant.

An Oneonta resident for more than 35 years, Mr. Parsons taught mathematics and computer science at Oneonta High School from 1971 to 1998. He shared his enthusiasm for athletics as a coach of football, track, and soccer at Oneonta High. Doug also loved theatre and music, appearing in faculty-student plays, performing with the Catskill Choral Society, and singing in the choir of the First United Methodist Church in Oneonta. His many former students and colleagues will remember him for his dedication, his engaging stories, and his unique sense of humor.

Mr. Parsons is survived by his wife Jan, whom he married on April 22, 1967; his daughter Elizabeth Parsons Maguire and son-in-law Patrick Maguire of Madison, NJ; his brothers and sisters-in-law Richard and Debbie Parsons of Kennebunk, ME and Bruce and Yoko Parsons of Scarsdale; his cousins John Parsons and C.
