Dr. John Mitchell Wayman, of Pittsford and Oneonta, New York went to be with the Lord on May 24, 2010.
He was born September 7, 1921 in Charlotteville, NY, the son of John M. Wayman and Rose B. Payne.
He married Deborah M. Rauschenberger on March 23, 1946 in Butler, Pa. She died September 25, 1980. On October 28, 1983 he married Hazel Ulm at the First Presbyterian Church in Oneonta, NY. She died December 16, 2009.
Dr. Wayman graduated from Worcester Central School, received his pre-dental education from Hartwick College, where he was a member of the Alpha Delta Omega Fraternity. During World War Two, he served in the U.S. Army Dental Corp. Immediately after the war he attended the University of Pennsylvania where he received his Doctor of Dentistry in 1948. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity during his tenure at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Wayman practiced general dentistry with his brother, Dr. Leon Wayman, from 1948 to 1955 in Oneonta, NY. In 1960 Dr. Wayman and his family moved to Buffalo where he attended the University of Buffalo and received his Certificate of Orthodontics in 1962. After completing this certificate he returned to Oneonta to practice Orthodontics.
Dr. Wayman had a love of flying and had a private pilot's license. An avid fisherman, he was a member of the Delaware Fishing and Hunting Club. In recent years he built and flew remote control planes and was a member of several R.C. clubs in Oneonta and Florida.
Dr. Wayman was a member of the: Rotary Club, Elks Club 1312, American Legion, over fifty years a Mason, Hartwick College Citizens Board, and a former member of the Oneonta Country Club.
Dr. Wayman was a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, Begg Society of Orthodontists, a former president of the Strang Tweed Study Group of Orthodontists, and numerous other professional groups.
Dr. Wayman was a member and former Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Oneonta and a member and former Deacon of the Royal Palm First Presbyterian Church of Boynton Beach, FL.
He had a love of the German Shepherd dog and while a member of the Del-Otse-Nango Kennel Club, showed his German Shepherd dog.
Dr. Wayman, however, will be remembered most for the love he had for his family. As a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he touched the lives of many and will live on in their memories. He will be dearly missed.
Dr. Wayman was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Leon Wayman, and two sisters: Mrs. Laura Winnie and Mrs. Jessie Crowell. Dr. Wayman is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Cynthia (Thomas) Duffy of Pittsford, NY; Nancy Wayman of Smyrna, GA; Mrs. Wendy (Saul) Willbach of Jacksonville, FL; Amy West and her fiancé, Patrick Deptula, of Liverpool, NY; step-son, Joseph Ulm, of Binghamton, NY; and, step-daughter, Mrs. Pat (Steve) Ulm-Mazer of Aurora, CO; as well as nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
