Obituary

ONEONTA – Edith D. Monahan, 99, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home.

She was born September 2, 1909 in Mayfield, PA, the daughter of Archibald and Elizabeth Jane (Simmons) Ditmore.

She married Stanley Monahan on December 18, 1928 in Oneonta. He predeceased her October 29, 1942.

Mrs. Monahan worked at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, as a switchboard operator for 15 years; she also was a receptionist for several years at the physicians building on Chestnut Street in Oneonta.

Mrs. Monahan attended the First United Methodist Church and then the West End Community Baptist Church. She loved to bake for her family, especially chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane Richards of Oneonta; grandchildren, Sharon and Terry Collins of Ithaca, Greg and Roseanne Harney of Arizona, Pamela Harney of Texas; 8 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and 1 niece.

She was predeceased by her two brothers, Charles and Harry Ditmore.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the West End Community Baptist Church, Winney Hill Road, Oneonta, with the Rev. Keith Burnham, officiating. Family will be receiving friends at the church 1 hour prior to the service.

Interment will be at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery
