ONEONTA – Edward M. Cannon, 83, formerly of Burlington Flats and Brentwood, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at his home.
He was born February 9, 1925 in Long Island City, Queens, the son of John and Mary (Haggerty) Cannon.
Ed married Clara Kopcinski on April 29, 1950 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Long Island City.
He was a United State Army veteran serving during World War II from 1942 to 1946.
Edward is survived by his wife, Clara Cannon; a daughter, Mary Ellen and husband, James Angell of Commack; a daughter-in-law, Bernadette Cannon of Oneonta; grandchildren, Jennifer and husband, Joseph Harkenreader of Oneonta, Timothy Cannon of Oneonta and Claire Angell of Commack; 2 great grandsons, Taylor and Caden Harkenreader; 1 sister; 3 brothers, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 2 sons, Timothy and William Cannon.
Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Walnut Street, Oneonta, with the Reverend Joseph Benintende, as celebrant.
Interment with military honors will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons at a later date.
