MARYLAND – Edward Teleky, 82, passed away Friday, December 22, 2006 at his home.
He was born on July 21, 1924 on the family homestead on Goodyear Lake to Hungarian immigrants, Louis and Lillian Teleky.
Ed graduated from Milford Central School and Morrisville Ag & Tech College with a degree in Master Watchmaking. He worked for 25 years as a watchmaker at Brigham's Jewelry store.
He married Beverly DeShaw on October 9, 1949. He established his own business, Edward Teleky Jeweler in 1970. Ed continued to repair watches until his retirement in 2005.
Ed often told of being the official certified watch inspector for The D&H Railroad and having to inspect and regulate all the men's pocket watches who worked in the railroad.
He enjoyed fishing, his many times to Canada on fishing trips and seating on his deck.
Ed was a member of the New York State Watchmaker Association and the Portlandville United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beverly; two daughter and husbands, Judy and Dean Baker of Otego and Bonnie and Larry Potter of Unadilla; 5 grandchildren, Katrina and Melissa Potter, Morgan, Zachary and Dustin Baker; one niece, one nephew and a very special cousin.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter; a brother, Louis Teleky; three sisters, Margaret Shields, Lillian Rowe and Julia Maginley.
A Celebration of Life Service for Ed Teleky will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2007 at the Milford American Legion, with Allison Jay Bookhout, the Spiritual Care Coordinator at Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc, will be officiating. A reception will follow.
In honor of Ed, the Edward Teleky Jeweler's, will be closed on Saturday.
