Obituary

Decatur, NY - Edythe S. Hren passed away Thursday, September 6, 2007 at the Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, four days shy of her 82nd birthday.


Edythe was born September 10, 1925 in Oneonta, the daughter of Franklin F. and Dorothy (Mereness) Scofield.


Edythe married John P. Hren in 1949 in Albany, NY. He predeceased her in 2004.


Edythe worked for the New York State Department of Labor in Oneonta for 30 years, retiring as a claims examiner. Prior to that, she worked for the American Red Cross.

Edythe was born and raised in Worcester, NY. After marrying, she moved to Decatur to raise her family, residing there for 45 years.

Edythe is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara Rogers and her husband Richard of Mt. Vision and Kathy Perry and her husband George of Cherry Valley; a son, John Hren and his wife Bonnie of Decatur; her grandchildren, Erin Singer and her husband Keith of Staten Island, Beth Hren of North Carolina, Jill Hren of Portlandville, Ian Perry of Vermont, Melissa Rogers of Mt. Vision, Jessica Hren of Decatur and Cailynn Rogers of Mt. Vision; 2 sisters and their husbands, Irma and Herb West of Jefferson and Helen Grace and Gordon Miller of Delaware, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Betty Coyle of Oklahoma and her brother, Jack Scofield, of Arizona.


A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 10, 2007 at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 155 Main Street, Worcester with the Rev. Jane Pykus, pastor of the Worcester United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.


Calling hours will be Sunday, September 9, 2007 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
