MT. VISION – Eileen Theresa McCabe Dobler, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones after a long courageous battle with an illness, on Tuesday, December 18, 2012.
She was born in Hicksville, NY on December 25, 1929, a "Christmas Baby", the youngest of 13 children to Edward and Cecilia (Reinhard) McCabe.
Eileen graduated from Hicksville High School. After graduation she worked for Seagram's in New York City as a secretary.
She married William J. Dobler in May 7, 1955 at St. Ignatius Church in Hicksville. On top of being a wife and homemaker she raised her beloved family and enjoyed helping raise her grandchildren.
They lived on Long Island until 1964, when they moved to Mt. Vision. They opened "Dobler's Country Store", where Eileen helped with the daily operations. Later, they opened "Willy's Tavern", and she was known as the chief cook.
Eileen was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oneonta.
She is survived by her husband, William J. "Willy" Dobler; her children, William E. Dobler, Timothy Dobler, Mary (Frank) Flatley, and Matthew J. (Teresa) Dobler; grandchildren, Joseph Flatley, Andrew Flatley, Michael Flatley, Zachary Dobler, Katie Dobler and James Dobler; sisters, Helen Goode and Evelyn Kinney; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Cecilia.
Calling hours will be from Noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m., with the Rev. David Mickiewicz, officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Vision Cemetery.
